Weekend Wrap Up (only a day or two late!)

This post was originally going to be done on Sunday, but it was Mother's Day so I thought I would push it back to Monday. Naturally, the blogger posting page wasn't working all night even after I changed web browsers. Sigh. So that combined with a full day of uni means that my weekend wrap up post is two days late!

This weekend was pretty awesome. I managed to complete lots of stuff on my to do list and more, which is always a bonus! I found a new fabric shop really close to my house, and the lady who was in there was so sweet and nice! I think I will be going back there more regularly, it definitely beats driving into the city and paying for parking! Here are some pictures of my weekend.

Finally getting chilly through the day! Yay. I got to wear gloves (fingerless of course so I could still sew)!

How pretty is this fabric! I got it from the above mentioned fabric shop, took it home and found it was a Robert Kaufman fabric. Score! This is going to be the lining in the second photo for another custom bag that I'm finishing off. I'll share the better photos of the finished bag soon!

Making some ruffles for some new bags!

The weather was so nice on Saturday and Sunday (not so much on Monday or today!) and so I got back into the garden and starting weeding again. Grant's parents are moving back from Saudi Arabia at the end of June (they have been living overseas for 2ish years now) and I really want to get the garden into shape before they come back! This picture is looking at the very overgrown veggie garden and my makeshift chicken wire fence. This fence obviously doesn't work, since I found the dog in it the other day! These are some of the weeds I got out.

This is what it looked liked when I was finished! You can see from the left to the right image, my garlic chives, chili plant and eggplant. I also picked a big eggplant, and there is another one growing.

I peeked around the corner of the garage and found this flower! It came from a cutting from my dad's plants and has grown really well.

I planted some autumn/winter flower seeds too, I'm hoping we'll get some nice flowers over winter.

My first batch of sweet chili sauce was a success! It was so yummy! There is some almost ripened chillies on the chili plant, so I'll be able to make some more soon.

So that pretty much sums up my weekend. Combined with some clothes washing, hours of uni work and sewing, that was all I accomplished. It was a very fun and productive weekend and it was nice to relax. Coming up in the next few weeks I have a few big uni assessments to do, I estimate that next weekend will be spent mainly finishing off my drawings and model to be presented next week. I am hoping to squeeze in some sewing and a new custom order! That's my favourite kind of sewing!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

For this special occasion I thought I'd show you some pretty pictures of my mum.

The first picture also shows my dad (yay) at his 21st party I think? Probably best not to quote me on that. And the other two pictures are mum and I. Look at my hair! Haha.

I would also like to say that she is the best mum ever. Incredibly supportive and very encouraging in (mostly) everything I do. She was the person to buy me my first sewing machine for my 18th birthday and she also was the person who really encouraged me to open my Etsy shop. And I would like to think that she is proud every time I tell her I've had a sale.

It sucks that I couldn't be home to spend time with her today!

Inspiration Friday

It really amazes me at what people can make. Everyday (sometimes more) I look at Etsy and find it really inspiring that there are so many people in the world making wonderful things. I thought I would take some time today to share with you a few things that I have really liked today. Mostly of the humours kind, some made me giggle.

Blerg.

Gosh it feels like awhile since I've written anything substantial here. The last few days have been mostly non eventful (No offence to anyone I've seen!) and trying to get into doing uni work again. I feel like I have no energy  left when I get back from uni in the afternoons and I tend to veg out on the lounge at night instead of sewing/blogging/anything productive. I did manage to snap some photos of the last few days.

This was one time when I forced myself to sit in front of the sewing machine and get some stuff done. Notice the lack of light in the photo? Yeah, it was late at night when I took this.

When I veg out at night in front of the TV, I try to keep my hands busy at least! Mostly I have been knitting the last few nights, I'm working on a cowl for myself to take to NZ. I've never made one before, and I'm probably making it wrong, but I don't care!

Ah uni work. Why is it that when I want to look for something in particular its so hard to find? I just wanted to find some landscape drawings! In the end I got some good drawings done though, and I'm promising myself that I will work on them more this weekend. Two weeks today and my major project for architectural design will be over. I'm not sure if that's a happy thing or not.

I've even been lazy in the photography department too! Three photos in two days, sheesh. I need to lift my game. Or have a coffee or two.

Also something I did today was order this:

A very cute 'Berries and Creme' beanie/hat/headwarmer from YesJess on etsy. Yay! I so love the colours in this! I've been hunting for a nice one for NZ, but all the ones I try on make my head look funny.

Until next time!

I love that!

Mess.

This was the mess that awaited me this morning. I didn't tidy up after yesterdays sewing and so my room was in shambles!

Today's weather was cold with a chance of chill and rain. Perfect for sewing! I finished off a custom order and began work on a new range of bags. I also made some time for myself and spent some time on the wii fit. It had such fun telling me that its been 45 days since my last session. Seriously? It's been that long since I've been on there. Geez this year is passing fast.

I also tidied up my area, which is a crucial part for me to start a new project. If there is scraps everywhere and thread all over the ground it feels too scattered for me to start something. Cleaning and tidying is my way of putting that bag or those few bags 'to sleep' so to speak. I took some photos too so you can see where I work!

I've decorated the wall with a combination of my own paintings, old record covers, Frankie posters and funny postcards and cards I've picked up. I really like colour and try to have as much as it around me so I'm inspired! One of my favourite things is my doggy mug above. When I bought it home it had a massive crack in the bottom (I don't know how I didn't see it before I bought it!) and I was so disappointed that I couldn't drink from it. So instead I keep my drawing pencils in it so I can look at it every day.

Weekend Wrap Up.

It seems like I was doing this only the other day! Sigh, now this weekend is over and I'm one day away from starting uni again.

This weekend was pretty low key. I started working on another custom order and have been steadily progressing with it so far. I hung out with some friends on last night and I'm hoping we can do it again soon! Today I managed to stink up the house today with paint stainer (more about that in the next few days) and I decided to make some chocolate choc chip cookies. I did make a mess, but I cleaned it up and they were yummy so that makes it alright!

I also ventured into the backyard today, I felt bad that I haven't been able to look after my plants or veggies for awhile. Luckily it has been raining for AGES so they weren't dry or dead. But I was really surprised to see that I had a lot of ripe chillies that are ready to be picked. A LOT. Does anyone want some chillies?

And I found that I had two eggplants that were getting to a sizable stage too. Awesome! So I picked an eggplant today, some chillies and some spinach. I'm planning to make a spinach and eggplant quiche tonight for dinner.

Apart from that my weekend wasn't really that interesting. I am trying to read more this month and today I read almost 70 pages of my current book! That's a good start. It was a pretty relaxing weekend, which is just what I need right before uni starts again. The next five weeks are going to be full on with assessments due and classes and I dare say that I wont be spending much time in front of the sewing machine =
